How many people has Thomson Reuters Legal laid off?

April 30, 2010

I was cleaning out some old research papers yesterday, and came across this article I’d read last April (that’s ’09 folks) stating that Thomson Reuters Legal (TRL) had 7,500 employees at its Eagan facility.  But when I was there this past February (that ’10 folks), an extremely knowledgeable TRL representative indicated that there were about 6,800 to 6,900 employees on the campus.

Now, I have no idea how accurate these numbers are, and it’s possible I wasn’t too “clear headed” seeing how Eiseman, Boone, and Lambert got me drunk the night before, but I’m pretty sure I heard the number correctly. And if that information was accurate (a big IF), then it suggests TRL has shed some 600+ jobs in under a year, not counting the recent closure of its Cleveland office. Again assuming the accuracy of both numbers (apples to apples), then I’m very curious to know what jobs have been lost or possibly moved to other locations, like India or the Phillipines. I can assure you that our community would be somewhat interested in a news story that ran with the headline: “THOMSON REUTERS PLANS TO LAYOFF 600 BY END OF YEAR.”
